English introduction

Welcome to our site. You'll find the story of Fred Roosendaal and our ensemble, our agenda and some music you can get for free. The site is in Dutch, but if you have any question you can mail us.

The story of our ensemble is the story of Fred Roosendaal and his music.

He was very young when he started to play the accordion, he had a few lessons, but mostly he picked up the art of playing in practice and he was gifted!

He played in all kind of bands, orchestras, combo's in Holland and all over Europe. He was the only European player in the famous Argentine tango-orchestra of Eduardo Bianci and he was the only not-Russian in a Russian band. So his love for the tango and emotional music is declared. But also he was famous for his "swing".

After a while he had enough of all the traveling and decided to teach children to play the accordion. In no time he founded a music-school in Amsterdam, which was the largest in Holland and some of his pupils were the top of the bill.

He was very fond of children and he invented his own system to teach in a pleasant and very relaxing style. All of his pupils became his children and part of the Helikon-family. Helikon was the name of the 5 accordion-orchestras he founded in 1955, with only his own students.

The ensemble that is is still playing at the time were all pupils of Fred Roosendaal and they still love to play for fun and for the great music he left us. (He died at the age of 85 on March 2000).
